Find your footing in Snake

Try Snake at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Make your first input carefully and watch the result. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

A focus for your next round

When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round. Notice the feedback after each input.

Your goal

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Check the rules when you are unsure.

How a round unfolds

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

The controls to know

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. Use the control method described here for this activity. Read the example below alongside these instructions.

A useful example

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Notice the change in the playing area.

Where a round can go wrong

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. Compare the situation with the worked example. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
