Canfield Solitaire: what to know before playing

Start Canfield Solitaire by looking at the playing area and its controls. Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Thirteen reserve cards, four columns, draw-three recyclable stock. Free solo play, no wagering.

Take a closer look while playing

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Notice the feedback after each input.

What you are aiming for

Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Keep the controls in easy reach.

The playing sequence

  1. Build tableau runs down in alternating colours, wrapping ace to king. Reserve cards refill empty columns automatically.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

How to use the controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Contact us with the game and device if a control does not respond.

See how the rules apply

With base rank 5, a foundation runs 5 through king, then ace through 4. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Take a moment to compare.

An important reminder

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention.
