The Samurai Sudoku playbook

Choose a round of Samurai Sudoku and settle into its rules. Complete five overlapping Sudoku boards. Every shared cell must satisfy both boards that use it. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Begin with the solo mode shown on the page. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

This collection contains 4 puzzles. Progress is saved in this browser. The same puzzle can appear again; the collection is not labelled with calibrated difficulty levels.

Give this approach a try

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Keep the objective visible.

The goal to keep in mind

Complete five overlapping Sudoku boards. Every shared cell must satisfy both boards that use it. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Notice how the game responds to your input.

From the start of a round

  1. Select an editable cell.
  2. Enter a value using the keypad or keyboard; Notes stores candidates.
  3. Read the region, cage, arrow or outside clues alongside the normal constraints.
  4. Check entries verifies the completed board; Undo reverses your last input.
  5. New puzzle selects another included puzzle.

Your inputs

Click or tap cells and the digit pad. Use Notes, Undo and Reveal selected. Large boards scroll inside the game. Use the control method described here for this activity. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.

Follow the example

One value entered in an overlap serves two boards, so check the corresponding rows, columns and boxes of both. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Read the matching step again.

Pay attention to this rule

A full board must obey every extra rule. Reveal supplies assistance; it is not an earned deduction. Compare the situation with the worked example. Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board.
